In recent years, her work has centred more around her own projects, performances, and compositions. For 10 years she has been engaged in intense improvisation work in the trio "selbdritt" ("threesome") with Marianne Schuppe (voice) and Alfred Zimmerlin (cello).
Her particular interest in musical theatre, contemporary music, and performances led her to participate in the festival "Neue Musik Rümlingen" ("Contemporary Music in Rümlingen") in 1991, where she has been on the programme committee since.
Sylwia Zytynska has been teaching percussion at the Basel University of Music since 1985.

Just as Peter Schärli’s appearance and character seem not to age, his music, too, has something timeless and indisputable about it. "It’s simple and natural, like all great art," as Peter Rüedi aptly put it.
Pirmin Bossart, May 29 2015, Willisauer Bote

Schärli, who has long been judged on the wrong level and misunderstood as a Miles Davis imitator, is more like a steadfast melancholic (if there is such a thing), a real dreamer, a kind of (let’s risk the unspeakable) Robert Walser of Swiss Jazz.
Peter Rüedi, May 22 1997, Die Weltwoche No. 21
